Unless things have changed in the last 15 years, there is also a HUGE
constituent of Middle Eastern students at the university. I can recall
fears of Islamic terrorist cells at SIUE as far back as the 1980s. Now, I'm
not saying the town is heavily in favor of Obama because of the large AA
population or because of the Muslim rumors surrounding Obama, but those are
two factors worth considering. I wouldn't go so far as to say Eville is 90%
Dem (probably more like 65%), but much of the greater St. Louis area is
left-leaning and entitlement driven as is evidenced by Madison County, IL
being first in the nation for medical malpractice lawsuits.
